Senator Brian Stewart is once again sponsoring a Summer Reading Club to challenge students in first through fifth grades to read eight books during their summer breaks from school.
Once a student finishes reading all eight books, they may fill out a sign-up form and submit it by July 31 to Sen. Stewart’s office at 50 West Douglas St., Suite 1001, Freeport, IL 61032.
A sign-up form is available on Sen. Stewart’s legislative web site at http://senatorstewart.com/News/392/Senator-Brian-Stewarts-Summer-Reading-Club/news-detail/.
“Reading can take you to so many different places, and allow you to explore new activities and ideas,” Sen. Stewart said. “I hope area students will check out my Summer Reading Club to see what exciting adventures can be found by reading.”
Books for local library programs are acceptable, and books with more than 150 pages may count for two books.
Students who have read at least eight books will be awarded an official certificate from the Illinois Senate recognizing their commitment to reading, and will be invited to an official presentation in August commemorating their achievement at the historic Lincoln-Douglas Debate Site in Freeport (weather permitting), followed by an ice cream party at the legendary Union Dairy Ice Cream Parlor next door.
Please call Sen. Stewart’s office at 815-84-0045 with any questions.
