Senator Brian Stewart says his years serving in the military and in law enforcement, and his success in business development give him valuable insight into issues he will be considering in Senate Committees for the 101st General Assembly.
The 45th District Senator serves as Spokesperson for the Criminal Law Committee, and is a member of the Appropriations I, Executive Appointments, Human Services, Insurance, and Veterans Affairs committees.
“Illinois’ finances are shaky and the demand for resources is great. After so many years of kicking the can down the road, we have some tough decisions ahead. This session is going to be tough in determining the best approach to the challenges we face,” Senator Stewart said. “My Senate Committee assignments reflect my career experiences, which gives me unique insight into what we can do to get Illinois headed in the right direction. And in that process, we need to make sure hard-working families have a strong voice in all discussions.”
The Senate’s standing committees analyze legislation dealing with specific subject areas, such as education, agriculture and transportation. Committees screen legislation introduced by all members and usually, only those bills approved by a committee may be considered by the entire Senate.
Senator Stewart also currently serves on the Legislative Ethics Commission, which works with the Legislative Inspector General in investigating allegations of misconduct by state lawmakers and staff.
The 45th District encompasses all of Stephenson, Jo Daviess, and Ogle counties as well as portions of Winnebago, DeKalb, LaSalle, Lee, Whiteside, and Carroll.
