FREEPORT – State Senator Brian Stewart (R-Freeport) is reminding students in grades first through fifth that July 31 is the deadline to sign up for his Summer Reading Club.
Sign-up forms are available by calling Senator Stewart’s office at 815-284-0045. The completed forms must be submitted by July 31 to Senator Stewart, 50 West Douglas St., Suite 1001, Freeport, IL 61032.
“Reading takes us many different places and opens doors for us to explore new ideas and activities,” Senator Stewart said. “Students who have enjoyed reading this summer should sign up with my Summer Reading Club and share the exciting adventures they found in the books they read.”
Books for local library programs are acceptable, and books with more than 150 pages may count for two books.
Students who have read at least eight books this summer will be awarded an official certificate from the Illinois Senate recognizing their commitment to reading. They will also be invited to an official presentation commemorating their achievements at the historic Lincoln-Douglas Debate Site in Freeport (weather permitting), followed by an ice cream party at the legendary Union Dairy Ice Cream Parlor next door.
